Anesthesiology today is a crucial specialty in the medicinal discipline, with its sub-specialties ranging from pre-operative patient upkeep to critical care, trauma care, pain management and palliative care. Selecting a vocation is a multifaceted drill and might be prejudiced by numerous inherent and extrinsic factors. A vocation in anesthesiology is always thriving as there is perennial demand for anesthesiologists in every nursing home and hospital. The anesthetist job is for the specialized category of medical professionals, unlike most other medical job positions.

The reasons are many; the anesthesiologists work with other medics to measure and observe the body temperature of the patients, and check their heart rate and breathing patterns, both during and after the surgery. The role of the anesthetist is not limited to the operating rooms alone, they also work in critical care environments where they focus to revive patients and they are also required to play their role in labor wards during childbirth and in maternity wards.

An important part of the practice of an anesthetist is the study of the patient before the latter is required to undergo surgery and decide whether the latter is fit to be administered anesthesia, followed by surgery. This requires the anesthetist to study the medical reports of the patient and check whether the patient has had any prior surgeries and what his reactions to anesthesia have been. The risks, outcomes and options for the anesthesia strategy are deliberated to the extent of the patient’s personal desire to know and the patient’s queries are answered.

A written, informed, anesthesia agreement is gotten from the patient or the patient’s legal guardian. A well-informed patient often has less nervousness, and therefore, may have improved hemodynamic steadiness during the procedure. Averting intraoperative and postoperative

problems by documenting preoperative risk issues is a preferred practice over having to treat these situations after they arise.

To become an anesthetist in India one needs to complete his medical degree and then undergo a two-year diploma or three-year degree course in the specialty. There are plenty of jobs for anesthetists in India as they are required in clinics, hospitals, nursing homes and even small clinics run by doctors, as today the job of an anesthetist is not limited to merely administering anesthesia during surgery or labor, but they are now branching out into two new fields of critical care and pain management. In a country that is home to the world’s second-largest population,  our tertiary care hospitals and Medicare centers are also helping patients recover from critical illnesses in Intensive Care Units, Cardiac Care and Renal care units.

These units need specialists to run and manage them and this is the area where anesthetists are now finding their niche career in. If one is looking at anesthetist jobs near me, then one just needs to look at the large medical facilities around him at the beginning of his career, as at that point he will have to look at enhancing his practical skills in a multi-disciplinary environment. Once a  doctor has had a few years of experience, then he could consider branching out on his own as smaller nursing homes and individual doctors would require his services. If one is not looking to practice in a hospital or clinic setting, he could check out for vacancies for anesthetists in medical colleges where they would be in demand as lecturers at the beginning of their careers.

Some other fields where vacancies for anesthetists can be found include- brain surgery,  concentrated care medicine, pain management, maxillofacial surgery, obstetrics, trauma and emergency surgery, cardiac and thoracic surgery and so on.
